A Bit About Raw Milk
I've been on the hunt for raw milk for a couple of years now. It contains several vitamins and minerals we need, it's easier for our bodies to absorb than pasteurized milk, and it tastes better.
Lactose-intolerant people, like myself, can also drink it because it has lactase enzymes that aid in digesting lactose! It's even known to clear up autoimmune issues like eczema, which I tend to deal with from time to time.

Pasteurization kills bacteria that have the potential to harm us. In doing so, it strips away many of these vitamins and minerals that make milk good for us. It's important to get your raw milk from well-taken care of healthy cows.
With all of that in mind, I want to try some for the health benefits! I also want to know what it tastes like.
Wisconsin Raw Milk Availability
Since moving to Wisconsin a year ago, it's proven difficult to get my hands on some. According to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection in Wisconsin...
" the sale or distribution of raw or unpasteurized milk is illegal. The law exempts the “incidental sale” of raw milk directly to a consumer at the dairy farm where the milk is produced, for consumption by that consumer (or the consumer’s family or nonpaying guests). But those sales are also illegal if done as a regular business, or if they involve advertising of any kind."
Looks like I can at least buy some from a farm. Time to find one.
Finding A Farm With Raw Milk
In my research, I came across two websites that are loaded with raw milk information and farms that sell it
- Realmilk.com – a campaign for real milk
- Getrawmilk.com – find raw milk worldwide. Global raw milk farm and retailer database.
I'm using the first one. In less than 5 minutes. I've found a farm 45 minutes away! It's not as close as I'd like it to be, but I'm not complaining. Let's go!
Farm Experience
I sent an email to Silver Pond Farm and heard back within a few hours. Two days later, I sent them a text in the morning to make sure they still have some raw milk ...and they do! On the road I go.
After 45 minutes, I made it. I saw several ducks, cats, cows, and other cool critters roaming around. It smelled like a farm, but it was a warm reminder of what it's like to live away from the city.
The owners made it feel like home, gave me a barn tour, showed me how to get the raw milk, and sold me some organic cookies made from their organic grain.
I also found out that other people from my town go there for raw milk and they take turns getting all the milk for everyone. It's done via a Facebook group, but I don't have an account. Maybe I can convince them to use GroupMe or something similar? Those are problems for later.
Raw Milk
I purchased 2 gallons of raw milk. It tends to sour around the 2 week mark so I plan on drinking all of it, trying to make raw milk ice cream, and some other recipes if any of it goes sour.
Enough about what I'm going to do with it. Here's the moment you've all been waiting for...

BOOM! It's delicious.
